Chinese Domain Market Newsletter

Domain Investment Is Gradually Going Mainstream

I just read a news story about the .club registry partnering with Taobao to auction off some of its premium domain names.

My attention was immediately drawn to the name Taobao because it is a giant online marketplace in China similar to eBay and Amazon. With over 300 million of shoppers using this platform, its reach in Chinese consumers is extensive.

Taobao auction is the largest online auction platform in China. Its growth is impressive, recording 391% in transaction volume last year.

When domain names are sold through this kind of mainstream distribution channel, the general public will notice it and embrace it in due time as a new form of investment. Then, demand for domain names may explode.
