Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase. This reminds me of the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. In the movie, Harrison Ford rushes through the pathway to find himself standing right on the edge of a canyon. The map says there is a bridge to cross but he sees nothing in the air. Only after he steps out into that chasm does he find the bridge. He literally takes a leap of faith. This is echoed by the words in the Bible: Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see. Here's the post.

NewG talk #25

The rise of .loan has been spectacular. The extension entered the Top 10 list in the week of November 26, 2016, but within two months has taken the 4th place on the list.

Look at the chart on .loan was launched in Aug 2015. The first 3 months saw no rush of buyers, with .loan registration number being less than 30k. Then it took a year to climb to 300k. In the week of Nov 22, 2016, however, something unusual happened when the number suddenly spiked by 56% to reach 489k. The rapid rise continued and by late Jan 2017 .loan had already broken through the 1m mark. In other words, the number more than tripled in less than 3 months.

This dramatic growth of .loan stands in sharp contrast with the flat growth or even decline of most of the Top 10 extensions. In fact, the total number of registrations for all of the Top 10 is trending down: from 16,504k on Jan 21 to the current 16,297k.

Is there a sudden, wide adoption of .loan by end users? Not really. A Google site search gives us the following numbers: 12.5m pages for .xyz, 5.7m for .top, 30.4m for .win, and 2.3m for .loan. Both .win and .loan share similar number of registrations but .loan has much smaller number of pages found in Google.

Does it mean speculation is behind this spectacular rise?
